Overview

Every decade we see massive changes in the IT industry. In the 80s we saw desktop computing flourish, and progressed to a client server model in the 90s. Mobile computing grew quickly in 2000 and beyond. 2017 presents a variety of technologies that may deliver IT efficiencies on a grand scale. Technologies and trends such as AI and Advanced Machine Learning, Intelligent Apps, Intelligent Things, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Digital Twin, Blockchain and Distributed Ledgers, Conversational System, Mesh App and Service Architecture, Digital Technology Platforms, Adaptive Security Architecture., and others may be game changers. How will you capitalize on these technologies, but more importantly how will your Enterprise Architecture embrace the digital world to support all the changes?

8:00am – 9:00am: Open Networking

9:00am-10:00am: Enterprise Architecture Enabling Digital Business Transformation

Dean Sharp, Enterprise Security Architect, Manpower Group

Enterprise Architecture (EA) is the technical framework of an enterprise but it also transcends technology and integrates with the business. Therefore, the discussion and implementation of EA needs to done in an integrated, holistic manner. An integrated EA (business and technical) can provide the necessary support for a business transformation that makes the business ready for the variety of business and technological challenges it will face. For example, technologies such Big Data, mobile and cloud computing are all highly disruptive technologies that require a fine balance between their business and technical aspects as the organization moves forward.

In this session, attendees will learn how to they need to reinvent and/or refine their EA to embrace a digital transformation.

Content that will be covered:

  • How to drive business agility
  • An agile approach to drive business agility
  • How to pull together Cloud, mobile, Agile development, and DevOps to drive rapid product development

10:00am -10:30am: Networking Break

10:30am-11:30am: The Daughter | Mother-in-Law Challenge: A case for Progressive Delivery

Adam Zimman, VP of Platform, LaunchDarkly

The DORA report and books like Accelerate presented the data showing that more frequent deployment of code leads directly to greater stability. However, this often gets confused by folks who believe that deployment is the same as release to all users. Progressive Delivery is the most recent iteration in software development lifecycles. Articulating the need for more granular control of deployment and end-user visibility along with the need for delegating such control to more roles within the company. In this talk Adam describes a scenario when releasing continuously is a detriment to the consumer and builds a case for the progressive release of features is a requirement for all teams building software.

11:30am-12:30pm:  An Enterprise Architecture Innovation Framework

Lee Bogner, Global Enterprise Architect – eCommerce and Innovation, Mars

As Enterprise Architecture (EA) practices balance the mature domain of traditional IT governance, while embracing the dynamically changing worlds and ecosystems of digital innovation – new skills, missions, and methods – will further enable enterprise objectives of capturing emerging and driving mature markets growth. Today’s session showcases an adaptable framework construct for guiding innovation by EA teams and Partner organizations!

12:30pm – 1:30pm Lunch Break

1:30pm-2:30pm: Enterprise Architects: Champions of Continuous Transformation and Mergers & Acquisitions Projects

Bob Wamness, Director of Customer Success, LeanIX

In this time of continuous transformation, mergers & acquisitions (M&As) are an indispensable lever to help enterprises innovate and grow revenue. In recent years, there have been upwards of 50k global M&A deals and transaction volumes of more than 3 trillion USD — numbers which are expected to grow in 2021 despite a decline in 2020.

From an IT perspective, integrating, merging, or carving out another company is a complex process requiring the leadership of enterprise architects. In this presentation, Bob Wamness, Director of Customer Success at LeanIX, will discuss what enterprise architects (EAs) must consider when transforming IT and why their role is key to the success of M&A activities.

Key takeaways:
Get useful insights on the role of EAs in M&A deals from the LeanIX M&A survey
Identify the main challenges of post-merger integration (PMI) activities
Receive best practices to a successful PMI

2:30pm – 3:00pm: Networking Break

3:00pm-4:00pm: The Future of DevOps is: Modularity

Nathan Shaw, Principal Director Entando
Chris Lamoureux, Chief Operating Officer Veriday

As software development moves faster and architecture becomes more complex, teams also need to understand what’s happening with their systems more quickly than ever before. Join our session that will explore the strategies for teams to efficiently manage applications and infrastructure monitoring in a containerized, microservices world. Get ready to learn tips that will enable your team to ship better products faster.

You’ll come away with:

  • Why Agile should extend beyond the scope of software development
  • The challenges introduced by just focusing on “product delivery”
  • Why top-performing organizations are exploring value-based product delivery
  • How far is too far?
  • How to overcome organizational inertia and drive business value
