11:30am-12:30pm: Infrastructure & IT Ops Leadership: Strategies for Innovation and Collaboration

Alex Shvartsman, Director of Infrastructure Services, Hyatt

Leading IT individuals is more of an art than a science. The biggest focus, as of late, is how to create an environment that is both collaborative and innovative. Major corporations have spent millions of dollars re-inventing their workspaces, adjusting their benefits and changing the way they hire. From open concept office layouts to “think tank” sessions, corporations are doubling down on these efforts. Is it working?

All of these external forces are many times doomed to fail.

As leaders, we are ultimately responsible for this endeavor. From the vocabulary we use, the team structures we create, the projects we support, and the culture we foster, the leader(s) of the team can become the biggest driver of these goals. If we shift the paradigm as leaders, we can actually make sure all these external forces are not in vain.

What you will learn:

• Adjusting our vocabulary as leaders
• Efficient team dynamics and structure
• Mechanisms for creating “safe to fail” culture
• Strategies for improved collaboration
• Real world examples of a culture shift adding value to a corporation
• How to apply these strategies to actual infrastructure action items

There are 100’s of vanity metrics, buzzwords and KPI’s. However, KPI’s are only valuable if they can provide insight and drive improved execution and satisfaction. IT departments are always constrained by costs and constant struggle with balancing urgency and importance in incidents and service requests.

In this session, enterprise IT organizations will share with metrics the value when measuring the performance of the Infrastructure & IT Operations.

3:00pm-4:00pm:  21st Century Data Center- Hybrid Cloud Computing: What Should Your Strategy Be?

John Spiers, Executive Vice President, Pivot3

Since 2008, there has been this veil of mystery around cloud. With mystery came doubt and assumptions. The reality is cloud is nothing more than compute, storage, and network in someone else’s data center. Too often when new terms or buzzwords are thrown about, there is a race of early adopters who grab on to the vision, or attempt to deploy the strategy, while the rest of us sit back to watch and learn. Cloud is one of those terms, ideas, concepts, solutions. The problem is, when talking about the “next generation” data center or the 21st century data center, it is important to take a holistic view of this project or initiative. Believe it or not, this session is not about reasons why you should abandon ship and send everything to the cloud, quite the contrary. We will look at trends in the market, technologies being adopted, and how your peers are leveraging both an on premise and off premise architecture. Today IT must be more agile, and the solutions it offers need to be efficient with built in resiliency or redundancy in order to avoid the spread of shadow IT, one of the threats the business faces on a daily basis.

In this session you will learn:

  • What defines a 21st century data center?
  • How to manage this critical initiative?
  • What is hybrid cloud and what are your options?”
  • Building a business case to gain executive commitment
