9:00am-10:00am: Cloud Architecture: Cloud-Native to Lift and Shift

Abdullah Bushnaq, Lead Consultant, Liferay

Organizations in different verticals and of different sizes are facing pressure to reduce costs, increase agility, and offer additional functionality and capacity. Moving to or using a cloud platform is no longer something “other companies are doing”, but it is an essential ingredient in an overall organization’s IT strategy and future. We will look at what cloud service providers offer as options and what those mean to application architecture and deployment. Options range from going cloud-native, performing a lift and shift, and something in between.

10:30am-11:30am: Data Strategies for a Hybrid/Multi Cloud World

Phil Ferrante, Business Value Consultant, DataStax
Chip Crawford, Solutions Engineer, DataStax

You are going to the cloud–easy decision. You need a cloud strategy for critical data that today lives everywhere–not so easy decision. In this session, learn the pros and cons of today’s most popular enterprise data strategies for a hybrid/multi-cloud world: before, during, and after the move. Join us in discussing how to support any cloud strategy with a data strategy that exploits hybrid and multi-cloud, breaks down data silos, and changes your enterprise future.

11:30am-12:30pm: Ensuring Visibility and Security Across Hybrid Cloud Environments

Nathanael Iversen, Vice President of Field Enablement, Illumio

Everyone’s talking about their big picture cloud strategies, but the elephant in the room is this: almost no one has a clear picture of what they can migrate, if it makes sense migrating, and how to migrate it. You can’t migrate what you can’t see. When you finally get to see it, how do you adapt to today’s ever-flexible hybrid/multi-cloud environment? How do you protect an application that spans multiple private and public clouds? And how will you protect an increasingly utilized container environment? Spend some time with us and we’ll help to get you started.

1:30pm-2:30pm: Developing a Multi-Cloud Migration Strategy

Patrick Cannon, VP Technical Sales, US Signal

Adopting a multi-cloud strategy provides the enterprise with the leverage in cloud vendor relationship. When the strategy is that the workloads may end up transferring between providers, development teams can build apps that work across providers. This approach makes it easier to transfer between cloud service providers when pricing or differing capabilities make a different route more appealing.

In this session, attendees will learn how to design this approach.

3:00pm-4:00pm: Cloud-first Alternative Migration Strategies for Hybrid IT

Chip Freund, Head of Data Center Services Product Marketing, Cyxtera Technologies

In the era of cloud-first and heightened pressure to consolidate or shutter on-premise data centers, many organizations are realizing that not every workload is a fit for cloud migration. The high cost of running steady-state applications in public cloud, security or compliance constraints, legacy architectures and network connectivity challenges, have many organizations reevaluating their cloud-first strategies. In this session you will learn best practices from enterprises in several industry verticals that have migrated or repatriated workloads for which they found cloud-first not to be a fit. A framework of business and technical drivers that should inform optimal deployment venue selection – on-premise, colocation, public or private cloud – will setup the discussion. The session will then review a series of real-world use cases and common workloads. Each example will illustrate how an enterprise leveraged a mix of migration and cloud on-ramp connectivity options to maximize performance and lower operating costs.
